Course Description

The MADA BFA Honours Degree offers a highly focused environment for students who want the opportunity to undertake independent research in Studio Practice or Art History and Theory. The program challenges and develops the material, visual, conceptual and theoretical skills of the student within a critically engaged and supportive environment. Students graduate as practitioners informed about their particular area of expertise and its context in the wider field of contemporary arts. The MADA BFA Honours Degree will develop your practice and research skills for a career in the contemporary arts and/or Higher Degree research. Start of expanded content The MADA BFA Honours Degree is a prestigious program in the discipline and practice of Fine Art for high achieving students who have completed a relevant undergraduate degree. Students have the opportunity to work with leading researchers and artist practitioners in the Fine Arts at one of Australia's leading research universities. They have access to specialised workshops, studios, and the Monash Library, as well as the Monash University Museum of Art and its unique collection of contemporary Australian Art and exhibition program. In the MADA BFA Honours Degree, you will undertake a combination of coursework and research, producing an independent research project in Fine Art Studio or Art History and Theory, in your selected area of specialisation. Your research will be developed through working closely with a supervisor who will provide you with individual guidance and academic counselling.Satisfactory completion of this course will provide the preparation necessary to undertake a Masters by Research degree or a Doctorate (PhD) degree.

Academic Requirements Successful completion of an Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in an art and design field.
